Phenylethynylpyrene(PEP)荧光素属于多环芳烃类标记物，有较高灵敏度，是对微环境进行标记的试剂。类似于Pyrene，PEP dye很容易形成激发物。然而，PEP荧光多为红移。

PEP可以用作微环境探针，基于激发态标记实验。
